I am the Founder of The Sales Counsel, a boutique Sales Enablement Solutions company based in Johannesburg, South Africa. It’s awesome to have you here, and I really hope you enjoy what my team and I have put together for you.
I have 21 years of B2B sales experience, and I have built a long and well-established reputation for high sales performance. I started from the bottom (trust me), but I got my first big break at the age of 19 in office automation sales, after 5 years I moved on to sell asset finance for South Africa’s first BEE Asset Finance Company. Later I took the role of sales and marketing manager heading up media advertising sales for Kingfisher FM, where I featured as a co-host of the breakfast show for a number of years.
In 2011 I moved from Port Elizabeth to Johannesburg after being head hunted by Raizcorp to mentor over 60 companies in their portfolio, but I always knew that I was destined for business, I left the safety-net of full time employment in 2012 when I founded my speaking business, Shelley Walters Inc, followed by The Sales Counsel (Pty) Ltd in 2016.
I am incredibly privileged to travel all over the world to speak to a variety of audiences. and I am also honoured to be able to represent South Africa as a panelist in the annual international Women in Sales Awards in Europe, as well as taking home a winning award in the category “Inclusive Leader: Entrepreneur” and runner-up in the category: “Positive Role Model: Entrepreneur in the 2019 Gender Mainstreaming Awards, South Africa”.

Shelley brings unique insight and experience to her clients; helping them to navigate the increasingly challenging areas of sales, persuasion and presentation skills.
Her career began in a cut-throat office automation industry, working her way up from direct sales to negotiating at a boardroom level in just 3 months.
Later, Shelley served as the first Business Development Officer for South Africa’s first black-owned finance house, Sadiba Asset Lease, until she joined the team at Kingfisher FM in 2007.
For four and a half years, Shelley served as the Breakfast Show co-presenter on Port Elizabeth’s popular radio station.
Addressing 144 000 people every morning, she quickly learnt how to think on her feet and how to entertain an audience whilst consistently providing information that was both relevant and informative.
She regularly recorded voice-overs for adverts, productions and documentaries. This she did, whilst also serving as the station’s Sales & Marketing Manager, turning the station around from 100% donor-funded to 100% advertiser-funded in 18 months.
